TSE Systems
German preclinical research instrumentation company (TSE-Systems International) best known in behavioural neuroscience as the vendor of the IntelliCage — the reference commercial home-cage cognitive-testing system for group-housed rodents (automated-cognitive-testing-devices).
Key facts
- IntelliCage — a home cage with four RFID-gated operant corners; up to 16 mice or 8 rats group-housed and individually tracked; 24/7 behavioural and cognitive data (place/spatial learning, reversal, discrimination, fixed-ratio, DRL, avoidance, working/reference memory, gustatory preference, social measures); up to four cages per computer (64 mice / 32 rats); Designer/Controller/Analyzer software. The design originated in the Zurich mouse-behaviour tradition (testing since 1978), was industrialised by NewBehavior AG (Zürich), marketed by NewBehavior 2003–2008, and by TSE-Systems International thereafter.
- TraffiCage — tile-antenna RFID locomotion tracking of group-housed mice and rats.
- Wider catalogue: PhenoMaster (metabolic/behavioural phenotyping), PhenoWorld (semi-naturalistic environment with automated animal gate), and classical activity/motor systems. Publishes a scientific-insights blog on home-cage phenotyping (drug-class screening, handling-stress confounds).
- TSE co-authors the IntelliCage development review (Lipp et al. 2024, Front Behav Neurosci) with the University of Zurich, NIES Japan and phenovance.
