The article surveys the Micro-LED exhibition at CIOE 2026, concluding that Micro-LED commercialisation has moved past “should we do it?” to “who can deliver first?” — with companies at various stages (prototype, small-batch, sampling, customer verification) across two main application tracks: AR near-eye display and smart automotive lighting.

Micro-LED chip / IDM manufacturers

Xinping Semiconductor (芯屏半导体)

  • Founded 2024; silicon-based Micro-LED IDM.
  • 8-inch line: end-to-end process capability; engineering sample lit.
  • 12-inch reconstructed line: in trial production.
  • Core technology: wafer-level heterogeneous hybrid bonding solving the GaN-on-Si thermal-expansion mismatch.
  • Products on display: 0.39-inch (AR near-eye, high resolution), 0.61-inch (digital headlight / high-brightness projection), 0.12-inch class — covering AR/VR, automotive pixel light sources, micro-projection.
  • Stage: engineering samples → small-batch preparation.

Nuoshi Technology (诺视科技)

  • “Xinmou M06” (芯眸M06): 0.06-inch monochrome silicon-based microdisplay — claimed as the world’s smallest mass-produced microdisplay. Pixel 2.5 µm, 10,000 PPI, 540×280. Mass production delivery in H1 2026. Positioned for AR prompts, industrial labelling, lightweight wearables.
  • “Xinmou P13” (芯眸P13): 0.13-inch, sub-pixel 4 µm, red+green dual colour, vertical stacking route, light engine 0.15 cc. Small-batch, in downstream verification. Positioned for navigation grading/alert priority.
  • Strategy: monochrome delivery → multicolour small-batch → AR full-colour and automotive-grade in pre-research.

Qiuqiu Semiconductor (秋水半导体)

  • Demonstrated mass-production 8-inch red-light Micro-LED chip.
  • Based on self-developed lossless Micro-LED technology; 8-inch AlInGaP red material system hybrid bonding.
  • Addresses the red-light brightness insufficiency — a key bottleneck for full-colour Micro-LED.
  • 0.13-inch red-light optical engine: 640×480 resolution in ~0.15 cc volume, targeting AR glasses near-eye display.

Leiyu Optoelectronics (镭昱光电)

  • PowerMatch 1 full-colour Micro-LED microdisplay: 0.13-inch, 4 µm pixel pitch, 6,350 PPI, peak full-colour brightness 500,000 nits (white balance), full-colour light engine 0.18 cc.
  • Uses quantum dot photolithography (QDPR) single-chip full-colour approach.
  • Demonstrated complete AR glasses prototype with SRG diffractive waveguide.
  • Also showed optical interconnect verification platform: multi-core fibre signal transmission — Micro-LED extending toward short-reach optical interconnect / CPO.

Optical engines and modules

Goertek Optics (歌尔光学)

  • Highest AR-optics density booth. Three technology tracks: etched diffractive, nanoimprint, silicon carbide.
  • Products: F20Ge FL full-lamination etched waveguide (<4 g); F20Gi nanoimprint waveguide (0.5 mm thick, rainbow artefact nearly invisible); F25Ge DUV (12-inch DUV etching line, wafer-level processing, MTF +30%).
  • Self-developed 0.2 cc full-colour Micro-LED light engine.
  • Full chain: waveguide → light engine → whole device.

Sunny Optical (舜宇光学)

  • AR waveguide and lens modules, automotive lenses, robot vision.
  • XR zone: 0.13-inch and 0.23-inch LCoS light engines, 0.55-inch birdbath optical module, AI smart glasses, AR glasses, MR all-in-one reference designs.
  • Micro-LED adaptation per customer project.

Luxshare Precision (立讯精密)

  • Self-developed full-colour X-cube Micro-LED light engine: miniaturised, high brightness, low power.
  • “Lark Gen 3” (云雀三代) AR whole device: binocular display + AI interaction, with waveguide.
  • Via Lijing Innovation (立景创新): packaging and AA-stage layout — from light engine module to assembly.
  • Stage: sampling and whole-device verification; mass production per customer project.

Zhige Technology (至格科技)

  • Surface-relief diffractive waveguide manufacturer: grating design, grating master processing, nanoimprint production.
  • Automated line monthly capacity 100K pieces; current monthly shipment ~20,000 pieces.
  • 30 degree and 40 degree FOV full-colour products.
  • Alibaba “WOW” AR glasses use Zhige waveguide + JBD microdisplay — shipped. A landmark case for waveguide mass production.

Kunyou Optoelectronics (鲲游光电)

  • Diffractive waveguides in batch delivery (scale production).
  • Industry focus shifting from “who can make it” to “who can deliver stably at volume”.

Smart automotive lighting

Goertek Optics (automotive)
