Raytrx (Ocutrx Vision Technologies)
Raytrx LLC is the intellectual-property company whose name appears as assignee on the “wearable image manipulation and control system” patent family — mixed-reality glasses that correct central-vision defects by remapping captured imagery around a patient’s scotoma onto remaining sighted retina. The technology is commercialised by Ocutrx Vision Technologies (the OcuLenz headset); Ocutrx announced in 2019 that it holds a worldwide, exclusive license and development agreement on the technology from Raytrx, “a company affiliate”.

Granted members of the family include US 9,955,862 (2018; System, method, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media related to correction of vision defects using a visual display), US 10,111,583 (2018 — announced by Ocutrx as its second US patent, covering eye tracking for AMD and low-vision patients), US11461936B2 (2022) and US12413698B2 (2025); the latter two are catalogued in visual-prosthesis-patents. The inventor roster is essentially the family circle: Michael Hayes Freeman, Richard C. Freeman, Mitchael C. Freeman, Chad Boss and Jordan Boss.

- Origin story (company account): the first OcuLenz prototype was built for Brig. Gen. Richard C. “Dick” Freeman (USAF, Ret.) — father of co-founder Mitch Freeman and grandfather of CEO Jordan Boss — whose vision had narrowed under AMD. He is a co-inventor on the family, and the specifications report that in the device he could instantly “see” a nose on a face (the effect the patents call “brain-stitching”).
Technology
- Scotoma self-mapping via a projected Amsler grid (visual-field / scotoma edge-detection self-calibration), then pixel mapping, interpolation and synthesis (PMIS): a scotoma-shaped “hole” is cut from the camera image and the remaining image is displaced and compressed onto adjacent sighted retina; the brain’s blind-spot filling-in (“brain-stitching”, punctum caecum analog) completes the percept. Gaze tracking keeps the modified image aligned with fixation, and a smart contact-lens variant places the camera centrally on the lens with the display around its perimeter (see visual-prosthesis-patents for the per-patent detail).
- Not a neural prosthesis (adjacent technology): no implant, no retinal stimulation — it re-projects onto surviving retina, targeting AMD, Stargardt’s, macular hole, end-stage glaucoma and retinitis pigmentosa. Distinct from the implant routes of retinal-prosthesis and cortical prostheses, and complements the collection’s other non-implant entries (eSight low-vision eyewear; Novasight optical-treatment headset).
